Are you smiling? Right now, are you smiling? Why not? What you have to smile about? I bet you there are many things you could choose to smile about right now, but we’ll get to that. Fact is, if you cultivate smiling on a daily basis, if you make it a habit, you will improve your eyesight.
Don’t believe me? A lot of research has been done about the healing abilities of laughter and smiling, as Berkley University reports.
But regardless of that, it also ties in with one of our previous article. You’ll relax, and therefore relax your muscles, and that will improve your vision for sure.
Can Your Eyesight Improve With Smiling?
Let’s do an experiment. Put on a really serious face; your critical thinking face. Add some tension into your eyebrows, pull them down. Now add some tension to your forehead. Make some wrinkles, and really get serious.
How does that affect your eyes? Where is your focal point? How is your peripheral vision? Are your eyes getting tense and strain?
Really feel into your visual experience. How far into the room can you see around your screen in the state? How far above and below the screen can you see?
Form ear to ear, show your teeth. Nobody sees you, grin as wide as you possibly can. Smile even wider and really enjoy your smile!
How is your forehead? Your eyebrows? Still tense? Any wrinkles left?
How about your eyestrain? And your peripheral vision? Can you see wider, and is your vision brighter, more colorful, and with more spark?
How Hormones Improve Your Eyesight
Research has shown over and over again that smiling and laughing releases endorphins into your bloodstream. Endorphins are also knows as “Hormones of Happiness”.
All they do is tell your whole body that life is great and that everything works fine. It puts your immune system and the cell repair functions in the body on steroids. They add fuel to all bodily processes.
Smiling Relaxes Everything
By telling your body everything is great, there is no state of fear or danger in your body, so you can relax. As you just learned in the previous article, relaxing releases tension from your muscles and from your eye muscles.
So everything in your body works better. Your eyes can relax and contract, hence see into the distance and zoom in close. Blood flows freely throughout your body, bringing oxygen and nutrients to every cell. And with that improve your eyesight just as a positive side-effect.
How To Cultivate Your Smile
Who cares, if it feels unnatural to start with. Start with artificial smiling. Everybody who tells you that it’s superficial and looks weird is probably miserable inside.
Vanderbilt University's Health Psychology department says that it makes no difference if you fake the smile, or if it's real. They tested it!
If you want to improve your eyesight, this is the easiest way to start.
After a day or two it’ll be normal, your vision will improve and you will feel better overall. You’ll feel alive and will promote great health and longevity.
If somebody asks you what’s wrong with you that you are smiling too much, take them through an experiment and tell them that you improve your eyesight, your life, and your health, with one simple action.
Tell them this:
“You can’t have it only one way and say that negative emotions disturb your immune system. It must also be true that positive states of awareness will help you to get well.”

This is a quote from Dr Deepak Chopra, one of the leading cardiologists in the world. He is not some hillbilly, he is a leading cardiologist and knows what he is talking about.
Quote that, and all critics will stop asking… 🙂
Can Your Eyesight Improve?
Ultimately that's the question that all of this comes down to. Is it actually possible to improve eyesight.
For sure it is, the ways to go about it vary greatly.
The most common way to approach eye problems are obviously glasses, contact lenses, and eye surgery. But these approaches don't improve eyesight.
In my opinion they only act as crutches, otherwise you would get weaker prescriptions over time. If eye surgery was such a great solution, more than 50% of people would stay without glasses after the procedure.
That's the official numbers of the FDA, so the unofficial rate of people getting glasses again is likely higher than that.
How Can You Improve Your Eyesight?
To improve vision long-term and lasting requires you to look into the root causes of your eye problems.
There are many websites and books out there stating that the root causes for eye problems are in the eye muscles. That's why Bates Method eye exercises are so popular.
All these eye exercise programs are built on the same philosophy of Bates. Which is exercise your eyes to balance your eye muscles.
This is a two dimensional view into a three dimensional problems though.
4 Steps To Improve Your Eyesight
The problems is three dimensional because there is a root cause for the eye muscles to go out of balance. Our natural state is balance, so if the eye muscles are out of balance, something is causing that.
That's what eye exercise programs are not looking at. The higher root causes of the root cause, so to speak.
So, here are the steps we need to go through:
- Identify which are of your eyesight is out of balance
- Deal with the mental/emotional root causes for your eye problems
- Tackle the root causes in your body's chemistry
- Balance out the imbalances in your body and eyes
The formula is easy, once you know where to start and which steps to take.

How Improve Your Vision Holistically
There is another aspect that eyeglasses, contact lenses, eye surgery, as well as eye exercises are overlooking. The holistic interplay of the body, mind, and spirit.
In Chinese medicine meridians connect all our organ system. Meridians are energy pathways that distribute the energy throughout your body. The liver one ends in the eyes.
So, the life-force energy that is destined for the eyes has to go through the liver. If the liver is overloaded and working too hard, it uses more energy than it should, so less of that juice of life gets to your eyes.
The concept exists in all types of holistic and Eastern medicine. These philosophies view the body holistically, meaning treating parts of the body in synergy, rather than isolation.
The Liver Connection
Your eyes are not isolated from the rest of your body, they are part of it. As stated above all the life-force your eyes should receive will be used up in the liver, if it's toxic.
Sadly, in today's world every liver is toxic. The liver is the organ that cleanses all the environmental toxins out that we get coming into our bodies from water, food, and air.
I won't get into the details of all the environmental toxins here, that's a book in itself, just know that there are over 10,000 synthetic chemicals used in food processing today. All of these end up in your liver.
So, if you truly want to improve your eyesight, you have to free up your liver, so it let's the energy go through to the eyes. Without proper life-force energy your eyesight will get worse over time.
You have to find a healthy way to cleanse your liver. One that doesn't strain your liver too much, which most over the counter solutions unfortunately do. Preferably you do it while alkalising your body and relieving your kidneys of their load, too.
If they are too toxic, your liver takes on your kidney's load as well, and there you see how this all connects.
Improve Imbalances To Improve Your Eyesight
As you can see our bodies are delicate, finely tuned machines. If you want to improve your eyesight naturally, you have to approach it with a method that respect this delicate system. An approach that also covers how to cleanse your liver and kidneys gently and effectively.
A cleanse is two-fold:
- a dedicated period of time that is set aside to allow the body to remove toxicity from the cells, liver, kidneys, and other organ tissue
- including some specific cleansing foods into your diet that allow your body to cleanse on a daily basis
What To Eat To Improve Your Eyesight?
That poses the obvious question about what you should be eating.
One of the foods that will help your body to cleanse and your eyes to function better is Chlorella. This algae removes heavy metals and toxicity from your body.
Spirulina does a similar job.
What Vitamins Improve Your Eyes?
Vitamins, also known as anti-oxidants, are extremely important for your body to fight off free radicals. Free radicals are attacking our cells every day.
Unfortunately most vitamin supplements on the market do not fulfil their promise. The reason is that what is in the supplement doesn't necessarily make it into your cells.
More often than not, they end up in the sewage system because our bodies are not design to absorb the compounds in these supplements. We are designed to get vitamins and minerals from fruits and vegetables.
So before you waste you money on expensive supplements, especially the ones that are "tailored" for your eyes, make sure the ingredients are natural food compounds.
Keep in mind that some vitamins are fat soluble, meaning that you need to ingest them with some fats for your body to absorb them.
Your best bet is to read more in our nutrition section of the website and learn how to get your nutrients with your food intake.
